Oceania pioneered Care Suites in New Zealand, reimagining the way aged care is delivered. With a large and homely environment, residents can receive either Rest Home or Hospital care, removing the need to move to another room if their needs change between these levels.
Care Suites are purchased under a Right to Occupy with a maximum net management fee of 30% after three years of occupation. The benefit of this arrangement is the extra amount you pay for having a premium room is fixed, unlike some situations where you continue to pay a daily premium room fee, which can be increased, for as long as you stay.
Oceania’s resident experience philosophy is rooted in the ‘5 Ways of Well-being,’ a research based lens to promote mental and emotional well-being. We have a dedicated team who provide a varied activities calendar where there’s something for everyone. Keep fit and flexible with Oceania’s specifically designed exercise programme, create a personalised playlist of your favourite tunes with ‘I Love Music’ or hop in the van for a jaunt, with different destinations each week. The Bayview also has a special connection with the kindergarten right next door who visit monthly.
Food is something that connects us, it can evoke memories and bring strength and comfort. At The Bayview our focus is providing nourishing meals, with a balance of familiar family favourites and popular modern dishes. Our culinary team is led by an executive chef, Reddy, and three other qualified chefs who pride themselves on delivering a dining experience that also caters to the specific dietary requirements of our residents.
Oceania has been recognised for our leading initiatives in Aged Care such as our Nurse Practitioner model, with a Nurse Practitioner typically onsite four days a week, which has reduced wait times for medical appointments in our Care Centres. We use a digital medication management system, Medi-Map, to complete medication rounds.
Residents have the convenient option of accessing onsite hair services, including cuts and colouring. Salon services can be booked through our team but are paid for privately.
Our main lounge has a coffee nook offering self-service hot drinks for residents and visitors whenever they wish. Care Centre residents are also welcome to bring visitors to the café in the Retirement Village across the road to purchase barista made drinks and sweet and savoury cabinet options.
On the West side of the building, we have a beautiful garden for residents to enjoy. It’s a feast for the senses, with bright blooms, fragrant shrubbery and a vegetable patch that green-thumbed residents are welcome to tend if they wish. There’s a pathway to stroll around the exterior and plenty of seating for serene reflection.

Fern is a Registered Nurse who started her career in Oncology and as a midwife. She spent 20 years in Rarotonga where she worked as a midwife, a teacher, managing a resort, her own holiday accommodation business, and managed a tourist centred babysitting business before moving back to New Zealand in 2021. On her return she started at The Bayview, taking on the Clinical Manager role in 2022. Fern’s main role is to oversee the quality of care our residents receive, which involves being available to both staff and residents to support them and co-ordinate care to facilitate the best outcomes for all the residents. Fern loves working with people and gets equal enjoyment from interactions with staff, residents and their whānau. She gets real satisfaction when residents are happy with the care they receive. Fern has a large and busy family, with a husband and 13 children. She enjoys walking and tramping, yoga and reading. Her “happy place” is when she is enjoying time with her family and engaging in all the interesting things that fill their lives.
